Felix is Obviously Jealous of the Cat that Fell From The Tree

Connecticut houses serial rapists, corrupt politicians, 50 Cent and Mel Gibson. Apparently we also put our cats on house arrest too. [via QWMaine]

What Is Hip? Tell Me If You Think You Know!

Wow. Can I just say that my spring break has been the most boring one in a couple years? I find it funny that MTV was down at Panama City Beach to which I say, BEEN THERE! Don't get it wrong, I went down there with my school's chapter of Campus Crusade for Christ so I didn't do all that crazy drunken college student insane stuff but I still enjoyed myself and enjoyed the weather most of all.

I honestly spent the whole week doing research. I read, read, read until I couldn't read no more. this week has probably been a record of total latte's purchased. I really needed a break so I was able to meet up with a MySpace friend, Areil, on thursday night to chill and chat about Spongebob. He's cool peoples and he's filipino. I'd laugh if I found out we were related. You never know, it's a small world when you meet other pinoys on the east coast.

Tell me, why was I not born in the 1970's like my sisters?! I honestly can't believe I've lived on this earth years less than one of the best funk bands in the world: Tower of Power. T.O.P. for short apparently! I went to see them play at Mohegan Sun on friday night and like last time they performed, they put on a great show. I love how good music can be made from your basic rock band instruments, and with the addition of a brass section it's automatically funkafied. The saxophonists did their struttin' on the stage, the lead singer tapped into his falsetto, and people of all races got their groove on no matter how off their rhythm was.

It was a good evening except for the part where a drunk (or he was getting there) man fooled my sister and I into thinking we were getting front row seats. He just wanted to tell us his awesome story about how he got front row seats to a similar event by pretending he was some other person with reservations and eventually got his front-row seats. Not cool, dude.

Saturday night Joan and I went down to Fudd's in Middletown to catch a comedy show that featured her so-funny-he's-hilarious-and-then-some co-worker, Desi. How cool is it that I know someone who knows someone who is a comedian?! Joan and I live to laugh period. His standup was great and if you own a comedy club or plan to host a comedy night, you should keep him in mind for your next event. Seriously.

Oh did I mention that Fudd's was a bar? Yeah, imagine me, an of-drinking-age girl sitting alone at the bar drinking water and cringing at karaoke. I felt bad because Joan wanted me to sing karaoke with her but I guess I was wearing my pretentious hat and couldn't say yes to making fun of pop music. But CSI was on tv! I wanted to cozy up to Grissom, Nick Stokes, and Warrick instead.

Right before going to Fudds we killed some time sipping wine at It's Only Natural next door. I recommend the Riesling from Germany, it's delish. ION is a vegan restaurant and they sell free trade merchandise too. I'd love to try their entrees some day.

This morning Joan and I ate breakfast at a new place, Bank Street Java Lounge in New London. She had quiche and I had a breakfast burrito. Let me tell you, their homefries are the best! If you can't already tell that I love to eat, I'll tell you. I love to eat. My tastebuds know what's good and they're good.

I also happened to see my high school sociology teacher there. It's was weird because it took me a minute to remember where I've seen him from then I had these flashbacks of him reading Tuesdays With Morrie to the class. Who knew teachers still read books to students past 5th grade! Anyways. I loved his class. And not only because he had the most brilliant idea to bus his students to the city for a field trip. Okay, mostly because of that but we had cool projects too, of which I aced.

With all that fun had I'm spending my last day of spring break sitting at home doing more work. Sad face. I'm outie. Call me!

It's Your World

I can't believe my spring break has been spent at home doing research. I have less than four days left and I still have lots of work to do. I want to go outside and try to enjoy the weather but the temperature here hasn't even gone above 45 degrees to anything remotely pleasant to stand. It's difficult trying to keep an exercise regimen in a cold climate too. I'd spring the extra money to join a gym but I don't spend enough time in this town to make it worth the expense.

I'll admit it really sucks to be at a crossroad trying to figure out how I'm going to live my life for the next year. Nevermind my plans for the long run, I'm hoping things will fall into place soon so I can stop worrying.

In nicer news, I finally saw Pride and Prejudice. It is a remarkable film and I give lots of credit to all those involved with the production of the movie. I'm a sucker for period films and Jane Austen's novels are perfect for film adaptation. This is a great movie to watch if you're a hopeless romantic and like happy endings.

Oh, the marble mocha macchiato at Starbucks is delish.

One more thing, be sure to catch or TiVo a program on TLC airing on April 10, Honey, we're killing the kids!. I think it'll be a rude awakening to parents of young children who are not eating as healthy as they should. I can't wait to see it.

God Bless!

Care Packages for the Troops

I'm putting together a care package that will get sent to the troops overseas. I'm including some of the necessary things that I know they could use, especially feminine needs for the ladies. I'm also invited to include other items that will provide some comfort to the soldiers (besides playing cards, apparently they have more than enough of those) and I think I'll send a couple magazines and cute stationery but I'd love to send something(s) handmade. Unfortunately I haven't brainstormed any good ideas. How about a mix cd? Any suggestions?

And if you'd like to send some things yourself just email me and I'll give you the contact email for the person in charge of the program.

Ooh! My googling resulted in finding this. Dunkin Donuts will send a case of coffee to 50 lucky troops!

You Can Take the Girl Out of the City

...but you can’t take the city out of the girl.

I've heard people say that New Haven is like New York City's younger sibling and being a temporary resident for the last four years I'm starting to agree with them, whoever they may be. Especially when I drove my roommate Liz and I downtown to catch the 2 p.m. performance of RENT at The Shubert on saturday, I'm realizing some of the small similarities between this little city and the big city.

I've never driven into the downtown area on a saturday afternoon with summer-like weather but now I know. Traffic is bumper-to-bumper, people are walking everywhere, and it takes an hour instead of fifteen minutes to get to your destination.

You've not lived the city life until you experience road rage from pedestrians who are crossing while you've got the green light and you're ten minutes late to your show. Blinkers flashing, people getting out of cars in the middle of the street and running (probably to the same show we were late for), and guys wearing headphones looking at you like a crazy person when you and your passenger are screaming, "DON'T HIT THE PUPPIES!" and "OK, I WON'T HIT THE PUPPIES BUT I HAVE THE GREEN LIGHT!"

For future reference: If you need to get somewhere in the city and you're driving, leave at least 2 hours early and pencil in a family blowout if necessary. You also need to be an aggressive driver. To a certain extent, of course, unless you like to run over puppies then you're a sicko and I don't take kindly to people like you.

Despite all that built up aggression I still like city life. It's got history, culture, diversity, great ethnic restaurants, and sweet coffee shops to hang out at.

If You're Looking for Delicious Tiramisu in Connecticut...

Ask for it at Brazi's Italian Restaurant in New Haven. My sister summed it up by saying that it tastes like a cool breeze going through your mouth.

Map it.

AMF Always Means Family

I was surprised by the Project Runway season finale. I expected Santino to win or be runner-up but not kicked off first! I'm so happy for Chloe. She is such an inspiration to me if I ever decide to go into fashion design. I'm also happy for Daniel. Even though he didn't win he's still guaranteed his own share of success sometime soon. Plus Michael Kors offered him a job so that's a start!

So last night was very eventful. My girlfriends Pam, Christina, Danielle, (and Lissette initially but she had to leave early) and I went out to eat at Bulldog Burrito, then stopped by Koffee Too? to pick up some coffee and headed over to Hamden Lanes for some late night Xtreme bowling.

It's been years since I went bowling, let alone neon lights bowling. We played from about 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. and yes, we took pictures. You'll see those soon. I must say I did pretty well considering I never inherited my father's award-winning bowling genes. The one thing about bowling I don't like is that I always break my right thumb nail. I tore the nail right off after one shot and I am now in serious need of an emery board. I also missed an opportunity to win 3 free games when I missed a 7-10 split. Norm Duke, Pete Weber and Parker Bohn, why have you taught me nothing?!

All in all it was a fun night and I prevented my OCD tendencies from coming out long enough to wear the rental shoes.

[And for my future reference: 11 pounds, small; third dotted line; between the center dot and first dot to the right; first line from the right on the lane; underhand release for a good hook. ;o) ]

America's Next Top Model Madness

If you like watching America's Next Top Model on UPN and think you are a good judge of modeling, join my new MySpace group, the Fantasy ANTM League. It's fun and free! All you need to do is choose three models each week (you can add/drop between new shows) who you think will bring in the most points per episode (there are 10 categories of points) and whoever chooses the next top model wins a lot of points at the end.

Send me a message if you wanna join and I'll send you an invite to the group.

Watch out boys, I'm dangerous

I'm starting to think I have mysteriously acquired Carrie-like powers that if not repressed may cause me to do serious damage to anyone or anything in a half-mile radius around me. Cases(s) in point:

I don't drag my feet but I seem to have enough electricity in my body to get shocked whenever I come into contact with metal. Streetlights go out when I pass underneath them. I have the power to freeze computer screens, Wal-Mart digital photo kiosk screens, and last week at Best Buy I walked past a television and the screen froze. While I didn't think it was funny, I'm hoping someone was just playing a dirty joke on me.

This past friday I also learned my personal belongings are dangerous. I went to get a replacement drivers license at the DMV and out of all the licenses being printed and laminated at the time, mine was the one that had to jam the machine.

I'd get a helmet and flame retardant clothing if I were you.

Project Obsessed

My favorite lounge in New Haven, Caffe Bottega, holds a game night every thursday night for those who like to play poker and other card games. I just came up with the idea that my roommates and friends in the area should have a weekly game night. Uno night, maybe? How about Monopoly or Clue? We could play games while watching a movie (or the new cycle of America's Next Top Model) and order chinese take-out (or better yet Bulldog Burrito burritos!). What do you think?

Okay, I'm so excited and I just can't hide it about the season finale of Project Runway 2. Part one was such a tease because I am aching to see all three lines on the runway. [See Chloe's Collection, Daniel's collection, Santino's collection] I want all three of the finalists to come out of the show as winners but I really think Santino may be the big winner. Daniel is innovative, Chloe executes her designs exceptionally, and Santino is just damn good. In the end I really see Santino being able to handle the fashion world and "the business" in more ways than one. Fashion may look glamorous but it's all hard work behind the scenes and it takes a really strong and talented person to be able to bang out two collections per year for years at a time.

oh how i love theeHOTHOTHOTTTnice

For what I did see of each of the designer's pieces I loved the black and white jacket by Daniel, a blue satin dress by Chloe, and Santino's sunburst pleated dress. Tune into the Bravo Network on March 8th at 10pm for the second part of the finale.

And we must not forget to watch the America's Next Top Model season premiere too!
