I think there's a Nathan's hotdog eating contest too... that should be interesting to watch...
I've been summoned to appear in court on June 27th for jury duty and I'm not looking forward to it. I've tried to get myself excited at the idea of being on a jury by thinking that the experience might be like the second part of every Law & Order episode. Maybe I'll meet southeastern Connecticut's own A.D.A. Jack McCoy! Maybe I'll be picked for a really important trial! Maybe this! Maybe that!
Nothing's working.
My last experience of jury duty doesn't help either. A couple years ago I sat in a waiting room with an ecclectic mix of regular citizens. For two hours I waited, watched a video and had a snack-less snack break and the case was settled before the jury selection process even began. I brought a book to read but I was still bored out of my mind.
I remember participating in a mock trial in a high school social studies class. I was on the jury for a trial of a fairy tale or nursery rhyme character. I think we put the dish on trial for kidnapping when he ran away with the spoon. The only people remotely interested in participating were the students who played lawyers and the judge. Two other jury members and I fell asleep listening to testimonies and we were threatened to be kicked off the jury because we weren't paying attention.
I also don't think I'm educated on the judicial system well enough to be able to make a decision on anything brought up in court. Can jurors take notes? I don't think I'll remember everything I hear unless the descriptions are graphic and shocking. Or if the prosecutor makes butt jokes.
I guess it's those past experiences that put a damper on the adrenaline rush. Is there any way I could make jury duty fun? Seriously. If only a note from my mother could get me out of this.
There's a jazz quintet band that plays at the Daniel Packer Inn in Mystic every thursday night in the pub after 10pm. There's a guy on drums, guitar, bass, trombone, and the lead singer plays trumpet. There's a little bit of funk, blues, and Ray Charles mixed into their sound. I heard them play last night and enjoyed myself. I'll probably go hear them again next week. If anyone ever decides to check it out, let me know if you're going or say hi if you see me!
Even though a night of jazz makes me very happy, it will never be a substitute for the old girls night outs. Girlfriends, you know what I'm talking about.

I thought I was the only girl who has a crush on Andersoon Cooper. He's lucky he's got an attractive face. Otherwise I would never watch CNN.
